Hello!
I am Mary Bell (she/her) - a Reggio-inspired teacher, coach, and consultant.
If asked to summarize my thoughts about children, teaching, and learning, I would use the quotes above. Throughout my decades of work with young children, I have been inspired by their creativity and curiosity, their challenging questions, and their innate wisdom. And, they have taught me essential truths about living a life of joy and fulfillment.
I believe that children deserve to be surrounded by adults who nurture their hearts, minds, and spirits with thought, care, and respect. That belief is the origin of Inspired by Children – both the title of a poem and the name of my consulting practice.
My philosophy is guided by the work of Dewey, Piaget, Vygotsky, Gardner, and the schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy. The values and attitudes that infuse my approach to teaching - respect, collaboration, curiosity, and creativity - are also the foundation of my work as a consultant and mentor.
I have worked with educators, children, and families as a classroom teacher, studio art teacher, preschool director, university faculty member, and consultant. These links provide more information about my experience, and the schools and organizations with whom I have collaborated.
My role, both as a teacher and a consultant, is not to give answers; but rather to listen, ask questions, provide resources, offer possibilities, facilitate dialogue and reflection, and encourage new insights and deeper understanding.
Just as each child has a unique developmental path; each educator, administrator, and parent has a unique professional and personal journey. It would be a privilege to join you.
